April 22, 2015
Two mornings ago, I picked a card out of my little positive thoughts jar. It said, “Behold your world with a sense of wonder”. I thought how perfect for Earth Day, so I saved it for today!
Today is Earth Day! Did you know that? If not, you do now. Go outside. Hug a tree. Smell a flower. Feel the sun on your face. Do a rain dance (that’s a good one-we need the rain). Better yet, dance in the rain when it does. Take your shoes off and feel the earth under your feet. Feel the energy, the life, and imagine it filling you up from your toes to the top of your head. I know. It’s a school day. It’s a work day. You don’t have time. Well, it only takes a moment to appreciate our world and the planet God created for us. You can celebrate Earth Day any day of course! Maybe you celebrated last weekend with an outing. Or maybe you have something special planned this coming weekend. If not, plan it now!
When I think of Earth Day, I think of my Girl Scouts. We were together for 10 years and celebrated Earth Day many times. I especially think of Sophia. Sophia’s spirit and passion for our earth is contagious, and something to be admired by all. Does she hug trees? Yes! Does she climb trees? Yes! Does she voice her opinions? Yes! Does she stand up for what she believes in? Yes! Does she, and will she continue to make a difference in our world? YES!
We can all make a difference. No matter how big or small. Whether you pick up a piece of trash, recycle, conserve water (do you have a bucket in the shower or by the sink?), or participate in a rally, we should truly be thankful for our earth and care for and protect it. When was the last time you visited a local, state or national park, or the ocean, or the mountains? Things are changing before our eyes. We need to appreciate, and be a part of, the glories that surround us.
So, go outside. Take a deep breath. Be thankful. Share your experiences with others. Be an example.
Happy Earth Day!
April 22nd is also Leader Appreciation Day in the Girl Scout Organization. How wonderful to share it with Earth Day. I was a leader for 10 years and I loved every single moment of it. Okay there were a few moments when I wanted to run screaming (haha!), but all in all it was an amazing experience. My girls became part of my family. We disbanded almost a year ago; a very hard and heartbreaking decision for me. I truly miss it, and miss “my” girls.
To Jessica, Gabi, Shannon, Sophia, Samantha, Ariana, Kayla, Mariana, Katelyn, Brittany, Sara, Julia, Tessa, Ellie, and my own Rebecca – I miss you. I love you. I am proud of you. I am so grateful to have been a part of your lives.
Girl Scouts Rock….forever!
Have a wonderful, sunny day!
