I was having a hard time choosing a “D” word. Oh, I had lots of them written down, but none of them were really speaking to me to write about. Then I turned my calendar the other day, and this is what it said….
“You are never given a dream without also being given the power to make it true.” -Richard Bach So my “D” word is Dream. How could I have not had that on my list? Then again this morning, I saw this on the calendar….
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer.”- Harriet Tubman
So, okay, it’s time to write about my dreams! We all dream. I’m not talking about the dreams we have at night while we’re sleeping, although you could be dreaming about your “dream”. For many, many years I have always dreamed of running a bed and breakfast. In the late 70’s I began collecting cobalt blue glass; bottles and vases. I just loved the color and the way the light would come through making the glass light up. Around that time, or in the early 80’s I came up with the term Blue Sunshine. I have some doodles in a notebook where I wrote the words down in different ways; cursive, printing, etc. Sometime in the late 80’s I came up with the thought that it would be wonderful to have some place to share my love for decorating and love for helping people, like a bed and breakfast! I decided then and there the name would be Blue Sunshine.
Well, a lot has happened in the past 30 years or so. Yikes! Where has the time gone? I have to admit, I am not a driven person, nor am I very ambitious, but I do have dreams. Money is an issue, too. Maybe it can still happen, but if it doesn’t, perhaps my dream will become something a bit different. Maybe I will still have a place I can share with others. A place I can decorate, and make warm and comfortable for others to come and relax, rejuvenate, play, or create. Well, I guess I do have that in my home, and I have opened it to others to do just that…. family, friends, and my Girl Scouts. I am looking forward to my SoulCollage training, too, and perhaps my home will become a place for others to come, create together, share, and heal.
There is a building here in San Jose that I drive by every day on my way to work. It is in the art deco style. It was a grocery store back when I was young, and my grandmother and great-aunt shopped there. Well now, it is empty, with missing neon, boarded up windows, and graffiti. As I drive by, I imagine what a wonderful place that could be. I could have an antique, thrift, or craft shop there. Maybe even an art studio. And flowers, of course! Or my dad had an idea that it should be a banquet hall. There is land behind it that could be turned into gardens. I could do that, too! Such fun dreams!
Of course, I have other dreams, too. Some are silly, some are truly hopeful. My hopes involve my son and our estranged relationship. My dreams just might include a soul mate….. it’ll happen if it’s meant to.
Pay attention to your dreams; those little nudges or sparks that come from deep within your soul. Know that all of your dreams may not come true, but you might just find a way to make something happen that moves you and makes you a more complete, joyful human being.

Have a sunshiny day…. and may all your dreams make you happy!
