Summer Vacation!! Hooray! I know I’m doing things a bit out of sequence, but oh well, the lazy days of summer, and the heat, have melted my brain! Love this page in my Seize the Day calendar…
We took a trip to Utah again this summer for two reasons. First and foremost, for Mariella’s wedding, and second, to spend time with Janet and family. She loves to have us, and spoils us. Fun outings, good food, and a little work thrown in.
Dave had to share Father’s Day with the whole family. It was a good day and everyone was there. Hey, I didn’t get a picture of Dave!
That evening, when it was cooler outside, we played a game of Bocci ball, although I don’t think we really played by the rules, but it was fun. I’ve never played and those balls are heavy! Even though our team (Janet and I played against the boys) did not win, we did win a couple of the throws. I had a great one that was called due to a few blades of grass!!!
The day before the wedding, it was last minute errands, bouquets, signs, and packing things up.
The big day arrives…
It was so hot that day. Photos were taken in the shade on the side of the Temple. After a quick rest and some lunch, everyone headed to Thanksgiving Point for more pictures (ugh! still hot) and to set up for the reception, which would begin at 6:30. It was a warm, but beautiful evening. How could you go wrong with tables set up on the lawn, a water feature, and roses galore!
I took tons of pictures. It was hard to pick which ones to share here. Hope they give you a glimpse into the special day. The rest of the week was spent eating, relaxing (not too much), going on little outings, eating, a play, eating, gardens, did I mention eating? Oh my gosh. The area they live in has so many great places to eat, and snack. We had pizza at Pizzeria Limone (great thin crust pizza), custard and Italian ice at Rita’s (twice! – well, it was hot), salads at Zaos, and amazing dessert waffles at Waffle Love (a traveling truck – I had one with lemon curd and raspberries… to die for). I’m sure there was more, but I just can’t remember it all!
Janet treated us to a play at the Hale Centre Theater. Such a gorgeous place. It was intimate, but a great performance with an amazing backdrop and stage (which moved around in a circle)! Loved, loved, loved it!
Other little adventures included a quick visit to Gardner Village (a favorite stop of mine when I’m there) where I picked up a fun hat; Mrs. Cavanaugh’s Chocolate factory tour (where we got to try chocolate liqueur-very bitter, and a caramel and raspberry cream-yum); Thanksgiving Point Gardens (tons of pictures there); the Holdman Art Studio where Rebecca and I made (with the help of Vincente, the instructor) a glass flower; the Puppy Barn; the Lehi Roller Mills, (the flour mill where Ren (Kevin Bacon) worked in the movie Footloose; and lastly, a stop at the City Creek Mall in Salt Lake to wait for Dave. I love the indoor area where the creek runs through. It was much cooler than outside.
Our final day we spent mostly relaxing, but made one final stop before the airport at Sub Zero, an ice cream place. It was pretty cool. They make the ice cream right in front of you out of cream and your selected ingredients. Not with an ice cream maker, but with a blast of liquid nitrogen that freezes in in moments! And it was yummy!! I had banana, almonds, and fudge!!
It was a wonderful trip, but we were glad to be going home to our own home, to Bella, and our own beds! Thank you so much to the Roberts for having us!
Make sure you find some time to renew and restore your spirit this summer!
PS. This blog is dedicated to Dave and to his mother, who passed away a few days after we left. May she find peace and perfection in the next world.
